Let There Be More Light - The Meadows, Sarasota, FL.

My client requested a new kitchen with simple, clean lines and greater functionality within the original kitchen floor plan without major plumbing adjustments. The first change involved removing an existing soffit above the sink wall and extending the new cabinets full height to the ceiling. The new top row of small cabinet doors with glass fronts are illuminated from within. Providing no additional storage space, these little cabinets with their soft ambient lighting are intended to improve the overall mood of the kitchen. Extending the cabinets full height also adds to the feeling of additional space. Under cabinet lighting reflects the metallic 4x12" backsplash tiles to their fullest. Notice the "stacked" tile installation which is more difficult than the usual "running bond" pattern. Eliminating the running bond offset from one row of tile to the next reduces visual clutter and imparts "precision" to the design.

The 8 ft by 3.5 ft kitchen island serves as a worktop and a spot for casual meals. The island's black base allows the white counter top to "float" within the warmly illuminated kitchen. The medium tone wooden plank floor adds a farmhouse familiarity to the modern esthetic.
