Richard C. Carpenter, A.S.I.D. has been a practicing professional interior designer for more than 35 years. He began his interior design career in New York City working for several years on the contract end of the industry for LCP Associates and Angelo Donghia. Following that Richard designed medical facilities across the country for Executive Health Group and several private residences in New York City, Southampton and Palm Beach for the company’s Founder and Owner. Richard also worked with noted interior designers Melvin Dwork and Renny Salzman before establishing his own firm Richard C. Carpenter Interiors, Inc. 15 years ago. After living and working from his home base in New York City for more than 30 years, Richard relocated to Sarasota, FL in 2011. Before relocating to Sarasota, Richard taught interior design for five years at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City of which he is a graduate.
A New Yorker at heart, Richard travels monthly to maintain relationships with his longstanding New York-based clientele. His most recent project includes a 3,000 sq. ft. condominium at the brand new Ritz-Carlton Residence in North Hills, LI. Richard has also been commissioned to renovate a 2,500 sq. ft residence in a landmarked Park Avenue cooperative building.
Several years ago Richard designed and supervised a major renovation of a seven-story landmarked private townhouse on New York City’s Upper East Side. The extensive renovation included construction of an outdoor roof garden and a ground level rear garden, a private screening room for eight on the lower level, private security installations, an extensive contemporary art collection and a mix of contemporary and antique furnishings throughout the residence. The residence also features a soaring seven-story skylit atrium with a glass elevator and wrap around staircase.
Richard has established a growing client base on both the East and West coasts of South Florida. His projects to date include residences in Palm Beach and Ft. Lauderdale, expansive condominium residences at both L’Ambiance at The Longboat Key Club and at The Water Club, and a condominium at the Ritz-Carlton in Sarasota.
For many of his clients Richard has designed and furnished multiple residences over the years and much of his new business is by referral from existing clients, vendors and contractors. After completing one new client’s residence on Longboat Key, FL, Richard was engaged by the same client to design and furnish the interiors for their new custom 5,000 sq. ft. home in St. Louis, MO.
Richard designed and furnished interiors at two homes in Westchester, NY, and two separate condominium residences on Madison Avenue, the first of which was sold fully furnished after being on the market for only one week. He has since been retained to complete a Park Avenue project, his fifth for this same client.
